STANFORD, Calif. – Freshman Makenzie Fischer scored seven goals and No. 1 Stanford won its first two games at the 2017 Stanford Invitational on Saturday. The Cardinal beat No. 20 Loyola Marymount 19-8 early in the morning and then topped No. 8 Hawaii 12-5 in the early evening.
 
Fischer led the way offensively and was backed up with four goals from Dani Jackovich and Kat Klass and three apiece from Jamie Neushul and Jordan Raney in the pair of victories.
 
Stanford's (5-0) tournament continues tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. against No. 6 UC Irvine, which lost to Hawaii 9-8 and beat LMU 9-5 on Saturday.

Stanford scored the game's first four goals and six in each of the first two periods to open up a 12-4 advantage at halftime against LMU.
 
Fischer exploded for a season-high four goals, including two in the opening frame. The freshman started the Cardinal with a score less than two minutes after the ball dropped and then tacked on her second in the 6-on-5 later in the quarter (1:21). Stanford converted three power play opportunities in the first and four on the morning.
 
Jordan Raney scored with 27 seconds left in the first quarter shortly after a LMU exclusion and Stanford was up 6-2 after one.
 
The Cardinal extended its lead with the first five goals of the second period and took its largest lead, 11-2, when Raney rattled the cage with 2:47 left before halftime.
 
Fischer fired home one in the second and one in the third to become the fourth Stanford player to score four times in a game this season (Maggie Steffens, Jamie Neushul, Madison Berggren).
 
Dani Jackovich, who scored twice in each of Stanford's first three games, poured in a season-high three against the Lions. She was successful once in the second quarter and then scored two straight for the Cardinal midway through the third.
 
Each team scored twice in the fourth with Stanford's tallies coming from Cassidy Wiley and Lauren Bywater, the first of the year for both.
 
Gabby Stone was in the cage for the first quarter and made two saves. Julia Hermann played the final three frames and also made a pair of stops.

Freshman Makenzie Fischer again paced the Cardinal in scoring, putting home two of her game-high three scores in the fourth quarter to close out Hawaii.
 
Stanford again used a strong start to secure victory, posting a 3-0 advantage in the first quarter behind goals from Jordan Raney, Fischer and Maggie Steffens.
 
Hawaii responded with a goal to begin the second, but the Cardinal answered with three more to open up a 6-1 lead after Katie Dudley scored 3:49 before halftime.
 
Jamie Neushul scored her two in a three-goal third period for Stanford with the other coming from Steffens.
 
The balanced Cardinal completed the victory with three scores yet again in the final quarter, two from Fischer and one of Madison Berggren's two against the Rainbow Wahine.
 
Gabby Stone played the first, second and fourth quarters in the cage and made eight saves. Julia Hermann accounted for her two stops while playing the third quarter.
