STANFORD, Calif. - No. 4 Stanford polished off its second shutout of the season, blanking Sacramento State 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon in a rain-shortened match at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
The defending NCAA champion Cardinal (2-0) looked sharp in its first competition since cruising past Saint Mary's 7-0 in its season opener 12 days ago.
With rain in the forecast, Stanford and Sacramento State (1-5) elected to start with singles. The Cardinal received rapid-fire wins from Caroline Lampl (6-1, 6-3), Melissa Lord (6-1, 6-1) and Emma Higuchi (6-0, 6-1) before Caroline Doyle provided her second clincher in as many matches with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at the No. 2 position.
Stanford then secured the doubles point, with all three teams winning by a 6-1 margin.
The Cardinal returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 14, hosting San Jose State at 1:30 p.m.
