TUCSON, Ariz. – Stanford's upset bid fell just short in a 74-67 loss to No. 9/10 Arizona on Wednesday night in the first game of its road trip to the desert.

After a lay-up from Marcus Allen knotted the game at 67-67 with 1:56 remaining, Arizona (22-3, 11-1 Pac-12) scored the game's final seven points to secure the win.

Stanford (12-12, 4-8 Pac-12), which dropped its 15th straight game in the series, was looking for its first win over a top-25 foe in seven attempts this seasons.

The Cardinal remained within striking distance thanks to Reid Travis, who registered his seventh double-double of the season with game-high totals in points (26) and rebounds (11). Allen added 15 points, Dorian Pickens chipped in with 12 and Michael Humphrey contributed eight points and 10 boards.

Arizona, which led most of the game but never by more than four points, was paced by Allonzo Trier's 22 points. Trier converted all 12 of his free throw attempts, highlighting the Wildcats' 25-29 performance from the charity stripe. Stanford finished just 9-12 from the foul line.

Lauri Markkanen knocked down a three-pointer to give Arizona the lead for good, at 70-67 with 1:40 remaining. The Wildcats made 9-23 from the perimeter and held a 35-30 rebounding edge.

The Cardinal, which shot 42.6 percent overall but only 4-17 from long distance, owned a commanding 42-16 advantage in the paint and forced 13 turnovers.

Stanford closes out its road swing at Arizona State on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 5 p.m. PT.
