Steffens Collects POW Award

STANFORD, Calif. – Senior driver Maggie Steffens was named MPSF/Kap7 Player of the Week when the conference announced its weekly honors on Tuesday afternoon.

Steffens scored six times in three Stanford wins over the weekend, including a hat trick in the Cardinal's 9-3 win against No. 7 Arizona State to open its MPSF schedule on Saturday. The senior followed up that performance with a goal in Stanford's 21-3 rout of La Verne and two more in its 19-1 victory over No. 23 Marist.

Steffens leads Stanford with 36 goals and her 2.40 goals per game average this season is fourth in the league.

She's had a hat trick in six of the Cardinal's last eight games and with her final goal of the weekend she became the fifth player in program history to score 200 in a career.

It's the fifth weekly award of Steffens' career. She was named the league's player of the week once each in 2014 and 2015 and collected a pair of newcomer of the week nods as a freshman in 2013.

The Cardinal is on a break next weekend for finals before resuming MPSF play at home on Saturday, March 25 against CSU Bakersfield at 1 p.m.
