COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Stanford synchronized swimming team tries for its second consecutive U.S. Collegiate Championship crown on Saturday at Ohio State University.
The Cardinal has been impressive in preliminary qualifying, winning three of four routines. After pacing the competition in duet and trio on Thursday, Stanford recorded the top score in the team free routine Friday night.
The group of Rachel Hyon, Clare McGovern, Sandra Ortellado, Isabella Park, Erica Slavin, Marsia Tashima and Amanda Urke posted a score of 85.0067, to edge second place Ohio State (84.9000). The Cardinal's second unit of Elle Billman, Gillian Brassil, Natalie Fletcher, Dylan Harding and Lily Randhawa qualified sixth with a mark of 79.0167.
On Saturday, finals will be contested in all four routines. Trio starts off the day from 9:30-10:45 a.m. ET, followed by duet from 11:00-12:15 p.m., solo from 2:30-3:45 p.m., and the team free from 4:00-5:25 p.m.
Two Cardinal contingents will compete in trio. On Thursday, McGovern, Ortellado and Slavin led all qualifiers, while Hyon, Park and Tashima finished third.
Ortellado and Slavin received the highest duet score on Thursday, and McGovern garnered second in solo.
Billman placed first on Friday in Division B Figures, scoring 69.3273. In Division A Elements, Ortellado finished fifth (79.9146), Hyon was ninth (78.3542), Park was 13th (77.5750), and Tashima placed 17th (77.0000).
