MAUI, Hawaii – Freshman Madie Chou fired a career-best 3-under 69 on Tuesday to help the top-ranked Stanford women's golf team remain in fifth place after two rounds of the Anuenue Spring Break Classic at Kapalua Resort.
Sparked by an eagle at the par-5 15th hole, Chou blazed a 5-under 32 on the back nine at the Bay Course, adding birdies at the par-5 10th, par-4 14th and par-5 18th. She was a combined 5-under on the five par-5s and is tied for sixth at even-par 144.
UCLA blitzed the layout for a 7-under score of 281 and has a 36-hole total of 4-under 572. Arizona State is second at 4-over 580.
Stanford improved seven strokes from Monday's opening round with a 4-over 292 and has a two-round tally of 15-over 591.
A winner of three consecutive events, the Cardinal is without freshman Andrea Lee, ranked second nationally, who is competing in the ANA Inspiration, the LPGA Tour's first major championship of the year. Additionally, freshman Albane Valenzuela is not competing due to injury.
Steady senior Casey Danielson (73-73, 146) is tied for ninth at 2-over 146, while junior Shannon Aubert (73-76) is tied for 18th at 5-over 149. Sophomore Sierra Kersten (78-76) owns a share of 35th at 10-over 154, along with freshman Ziyi Wang (78-76), who is playing as an individual. Senior Jisoo Keel (73-74) is tied for 48th at 13-over 157.
Wang toured the front nine in 1-under 35, and Keel played the back side in 1-under 36.
The final round will be played Wednesday, beginning with a shotgun start at 10:45 a.m. PT.
