Cardinal falls in the Rockies

BOULDER, Colo. – Stanford ran into a hot shooting Colorado squad, dropping a 91-72 decision to the Buffaloes Thursday night at the Coors Events Center in Boulder.
 
In an evenly-played first half, Stanford (14-15, 6-11 Pac-12) took a 29-28 lead on a Michael Humphrey free throw with less than five minutes to play in the opening period. Colorado (17-13, 7-10 Pac-12), however, responded with 13 of the final 19 points of the half to take a 41-35 lead into the break.
 
The Buffaloes continued their momentum after halftime, connecting on 16 of their first 18 field goals after the break to surge out to a 19-point (68-49) lead 8:50 into the final period.  
 
The Cardinal could not cut into the lead as Colorado shot 59.4 percent for the second half, en route to the win. The Buffaloes finished the game with a 56.5 field goal percentage for the contest.
 
Junior Reid Travis, who was limited to just five points in the first half, responded with nine points in a span of 2:38 in the second half to finish the game with 14 points and eight rebounds.
 
Senior Marcus Allen, who was saddled with two early fouls and played limited minutes in the first half, guided the Cardinal offensively with 15 points in the contest.
 
Junior Michael Humphrey (13) and sophomore Marcus Sheffield (10) rounded out Stanford's double-digit scorers against Colorado.
 
Six Colorado players finished with double figures in the scoring column, including 15 each from Lucas Siewert, George King and Xavier Johnson. Wesley Gordon, Deleon Brown and Tory Miller added 10 points apiece.
 
Stanford will close the regular season in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Saturday at 1 p.m. PT against Utah. The game will be televised on Pac-12 Network.
