STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford's Elizabeth DeBole was named Women's Indoor Track and Field West Region Assistant Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday.
DeBole, in her fourth year coaching the Cardinal women's distance runners, coached NCAA qualifiers in the distance medley relay and the 3,000 meters. Vanessa Fraser and Elise Cranny are fifth and 12th, respectively, in Division I in the 3,000 meters this year. DeBole's distance medley relay squad finished second at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships and ranked No. 8 in Division I.
Fraser and Cranny will compete in both the 3,000 and DMR at the NCAA Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday in College Station, Texas.
This is the second USFTCCCA honor for DeBole, who earned West Region Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year following Stanford's regional title. The Cardinal went on to finish fifth at the NCAA Championships with three freshmen among the team's top five.
The former Elizabeth Maloy was a four-time All-America and track and cross-country team captain at Georgetown, and placed seventh at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 5,000 before embarking on her coaching career.
