STANFORD, Calif. – Elizabeth Cusick's career-tying four goals combined with hat tricks from Kelsey Murray and Dillon Schoen powered the 17th-ranked Cardinal to a 17-13 win over William & Mary Wednesday night to push Stanford's win streak to four.
The Cardinal (5-2) opened the game strong after trading goals with the Tribe (1-4) before the Cardinal went on a five goal tear with two goals from Elizabeth Cusick and Genesis Lucero in the half. The Cardinal dominated on offense, outshooting William & Mary 21-9 and outdrawing the Tribe 8-5 as it held a dominant 9-3 lead headed into the break.
The second half was a different story as William & Mary stepped up to adjust and fight back into the game, besting Stanford in draw controls, shots and saves as the Tribe pulled it to within three goals with over eight minutes remaining.
Cusick started the spree that would lead to the Cardinal shutting the door on William & Mary as the senior went back-to-back for her 13th and 14th goals of the year before Anna Salemo and Areta Buness helped add the clinching goals. Allie DaCar kept the Tribe at bay in the cage with her eight saves on the night as well as Stanford made it four Ws in a row.
Stanford returns to action this weekend as it sets to host UConn Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1 p.m. PT at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
