Birdie Barrage

NAPA, Calif. – The third-ranked Stanford women's golf team scorched the North Course at Silverado Resort & Spa for 26 birdies and posted an 18-hole school scoring record of 12-under 276 on Monday to secure the lead after two rounds of the Silverado Showdown. All five players broke par, believed to be a program first.

The defending champion Cardinal has a 36-hole total of 17-under 559, five strokes ahead of No. 5 UCLA. The final round will be played Tuesday.

"Today was fun to watch and coach," said Anne Walker, the Margot and Mitch Milias Director of Women's Golf. "The team played relaxed but focused. They were hitting quality golf shots and at the same time converting putts and making saves."

Freshman Andrea Lee led the charge with seven birdies and fashioned her second consecutive 4-under 68 to top the individual race at 8-under 136. Senior Casey Danielson carded six birdies to shoot 69 and is fourth at 138.

Sophomore Sierra Kersten equaled her career best with a 70 and is tied for fifth at 141. She has made 29 pars in the first two rounds, second-most among the 18 participating teams.

Freshman Madie Chou used six birdies to record a bounce-back 69 and is tied for 22nd at 145, while junior Shannon Aubert added four birdies to post 71 and is tied for 29th at 146.

Competing as an individual, senior Jisoo Keel shot 74 and is tied for 34th at 148.

The previous single round team scoring record was 11-under, set at the 2015 at the Branch Law Invitational.

There are 15 players under par. Lilia Vu of UCLA and Hannah Kim of Northwestern share second at 7-under 137. Vu fired a 63.

Stanford got off to a torrid start. Lee birdied the first, third, fifth, seventh and eighth holes to make the turn in 5-under 31, while Danielson birdied the first, second and fourth holes to shoot 33.

Lee reached 6-under with a birdie at 11, but bogeyed 12, 15 and 18. Danielson birdied 10, 12 and 16 to climb 6-under, but double-bogeyed 17 and bogeyed 18.

"It was unfortunate that Casey and Andrea let a couple slip at the end because they both played 16 holes of flawless golf," Walker said.

Lee is tied for first in birdies with 14 through two rounds, while Danielson is fourth with 11. Danielson ranks first in par-4 scoring at 5-under.

The final round begins with an 8 a.m. PT shotgun start. Stanford will start of the No. 1 and is paired with UCLA and Colorado.
