Modi Sets Unparalleled Bar

STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Akash Modi finished etching his name in the CGA weekly award record book Tuesday after claiming his 16th career honor – an NCAA record in Division I Gymnastics.

The award is the final weekly award of the year – and of Modi's career, cementing him as the all-time leader in CGA weekly awards.

The Cardinal placed second at the MPSF Championships last weekend, falling only to No. 1 Oklahoma. Modi claimed the event title in the all-around (88.000) and placed 2nd on parallel bars (15.450), 3rd on floor (14.600) and high bar (14.700) and 4th on rings (14.800).

Modi has earned 19 individual event victories against NCAA teams this season: all-around (6), parallel bars (5), floor (3), pommel horse (4) and high bar (1).

With his 16 honors, Modi leads the all-time list of Division I CGA Gymnast of the Week awards, besting Jake Dalton of Oklahoma and Sam Mikulak of Michigan, who each have nine.

The Cardinal has another week to prepare for the NCAA Championships. It will travel to West Point, N.Y. to compete on the campus of the United States Military Academy on April 21 and 22.
