STANFORD, Calif. – Led by second-team selection Kevin Rakestraw, four Stanford men's volleyball players were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation all-conference teams, the organization announced today.
Joining Rakestraw on the all-conference teams are junior Evan Enriques (honorable mention), sophomore Jordan Ewert (honorable mention) and freshman Paul Bischoff (all-freshman team).
Rakestraw, a redshirt junior middle blocker, is a two-time all-conference honoree after picking up honorable mention accolades last season. The Newport Beach, California native is fifth in the MPSF with a .439 attack percentage and ninth with 1.07 blocks per set, leading the Cardinal in both categories. His .750 attack percentage against UC San Diego in the regular season finale was the highest by a Stanford player this season.
Enriques, a libero from Punalu'u, Hawaii, collects his second career All-MPSF honors as he was a second-team selection in 2016. He leads the MPSF in conference matches and ranks 10th nationally with 2.42 digs per set. He has notched double-digit digs in 12 matches this season, including a season-high 15 against UC Santa Barbara on Feb. 11.
Ewert, a native of Antioch, California, is being recognized by the MPSF for the first time in his career. Despite missing Stanford's last nine matches due to injury, he leads the team with 3.60 kills and 4.15 points per set, ranking ninth and 10th respectively in the conference. The outside hitter was named the MPSF and FloVolleyball player of the week on Feb. 13 after posting back-to-back 20-plus kill performances in wins over then-No. 4 UCLA and then-No. 12 UC Santa Barbara.
Bischoff, a setter from Wheaton, Illinois, has started 19 matches for the Cardinal this season. He ranks 10th in the MPSF with 8. 52 assists per set and is second on the team with 105 digs (1.36 dps). He leads the team with three double-doubles and set a career-high with 55 assists in a win over UC Santa Barbara, the most by a Cardinal player this season. He also holds the second highest hitting percentage on the team at .403.
No. 7 seed Stanford travels to No. 2 seed BYU for the MPSF quarterfinals on Saturday at 6 p.m. PT at Smith Fieldhouse. The match will be televised live on BYUtv.
