STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men's rowing hosts the Stanford Invitational, welcoming several of the nation's top rowing programs to Redwood Shores this Friday and Saturday.
The No. 10 Cardinal will be joined by No. 1 California, No. 2 Washington, No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 18 Oregon State, Santa Clara, Hobart, San Diego, UC Davis and Orange Coast College in the two-day regatta that begins at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Action continues at 9 a.m. on Saturday and will run through 2:30 p.m. with a nearly two hour midday break. The complete schedule is listed below.
Stanford will open the regatta against Oregon State, facing off against the Beavers in the varsity eight (5:00 p.m.), second varsity eight (4:30 p.m.) and novice eight (5:40 p.m.).
The Cardinal will race No. 2 Washington during Saturday's morning session, facing off in the novice eight at 9 a.m., the second varsity eight at 9:40 a.m. and the varsity eight at 11 a.m.
Stanford will meet Hobart in the afternoon with the second varsity eight racing at 1:30 p.m. and the varsity eight racing at 1:50 p.m. The Cardinal will close the regatta against Santa Clara with the third varsity eight of Stanford meeting the freshman eight of Santa Clara at 2:30 p.m.
Stanford opened its championship season earlier this month at the San Diego Crew Classic, with the varsity eight placing third in the Grand Final of the Copley Cup, the novice eight placing second in the Derek Guelker Cup Grand Final and the second varsity eight finishing fifth in the Grand Final of the Sharp Cabrillo Cup.
The Stanford Invitational is one of two home regattas for the Cardinal this spring. Stanford will meet California in the Big Row on Apr. 29 at Redwood Shores.
