One Love Honors Ward

STANFORD, Calif. – Senior captain Charlotte Ward has been honored with the Unsung Hero Award by the One Love Foundation, as announced by the organization this week.

The One Love Campus Unsung Hero Award recognizes students and academic communities that have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to bringing the issue of relationship abuse into the light on their college campuses.

"It is an honor to be receiving an award in Yeardley's name," stated Ward, "the thought of her inspired me growing up playing lacrosse, just as it does now at Stanford. I'd like to thank the One Love Foundation for giving me a platform to spread awareness of this important cause, as well as my coaches at Stanford whom have embraced One Love's purpose. I plan to continue working in every way I can to change the statistics around relationship violence."

Ward will be honored at the One Night One Love event in May, an evening in Boston dedicated to celebrating a year of milestones and to honor students that have been committed to spreading the mission to their peers and on their campuses.

"I am extremely proud of the dedication, passion and commitment that Charlotte has showcased in her work with One Love," added head coach Amy Bokker, "she is an amazing advocate for this cause and this award is indicative of her passion. Her personal relationship with Yeardley sparked a desire to inspire and educate – she is truly a catalyst in the change One Love is advocating for."

The Cardinal and One Love week continues as Stanford preps to host Oregon Friday. Game time is set for 6 p.m. PT at Stanford Stadium.
