Men's Rowing

Stanford Invite Finale

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. – No. 11 Stanford men's rowing completed a busy day at Redwood Shores with a split in its varsity eight races against No. 2 Washington and Hobart on Saturday in the final day of the Stanford Invitational.

The Cardinal varsity eight closed the two-day regatta with an open-water victory over Hobart, completing the course in 5:43.44. The time was tied for the third best of the regatta. Stanford defeated the Statesman (5:54.17) by 11 seconds.

During the morning session, Stanford faced No. 2 Washington, with the Huskies posting the best time of the regatta (5:35.8) to defeat the Cardinal (5:53.6).

"This is always a great event and we thank all the programs for making this special for the student-athletes," Stanford men's rowing head coach Craig Amerkhanian said. "It was another good performance from the varsity eight and it was nice to see our freshman eight take advantage and finish strong with a sub-six-minute race to close the regatta."

The second varsity eight rowed three times on Saturday, after it was determined the Cardinal and Oregon State would re-row a race from Friday afternoon's session.

In the morning session on Saturday, Washington (5:44.2) took the win over Stanford (6:19.7). A little less than an hour-and-a-half later, the Cardinal varsity second eight faced OSU in the re-row. The Beavers (6:03.8) recorded the win over Stanford (6:11.7).

Racing two hours later in its third competition of the day, the second varsity eight improved its time by nearly six seconds from the previous race, with a time of 6:05.8. Hobart won the race, however, with a time of 5:52.4.

The freshman eight competed in the first and last race of the day at Redwood Shores. The Cardinal opened the day's competition against Washington, with the Huskies winning 5:54.3 – 6:03.4.

In the final race of the regatta, Stanford's freshman eight improved by six seconds from its morning race, posting a time of 5:57.3 to defeat Santa Clara (6:13.1) by open water.

Stanford will close its spring schedule of racing at Redwood Shores on Saturday, April 29, at 9 a.m. in the Big Row against California.
