STANFORD, Calif. – The Stanford beach volleyball team finishes its regular season this upcoming weekend with trips to Arizona and Arizona State.
The Cardinal (12-6 overall, 3-3 Pac-12) look to bounce back after consecutive losses against Washington (April 15) and USC (April 18). Stanford starts the road trip on Friday at 6 p.m. PT against the Wildcats (13-8, 2-3) in Tuscon, Arizona, for what will be the second meeting between the two programs.
Last season at the Pac-12 Conference Championships, Arizona defeated Stanford in the first round by a score of 4-1 – Stanford's No. 3 pair of Merete Lutz and Halland McKenna scored the only point for the Cardinal, defeating Olivia MacDonald and Sam Manley, 21-13, 21-14.
Stanford then travels to Tempe, Arizona, to face the Sun Devils (12-14, 1-2) at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Last season, Stanford defeated Arizona State, 3-2, thanks to a hard-fought clinching point by Ivana Vanjak and Catherine Raquel. It was the first time the two programs met.
Next week, the Cardinal will compete in the second annual Pac-12 Championships and Pac-12 Pairs Tournament. Last season, Stanford was eliminated in the first round by Arizona before falling, 3-2, to Washington in the consolation bracket. Stanford's No. 1 pair of Kathryn Plummer and Jenna Gray, and No. 2 pair of Vanjak and Payton Chang are expected to compete in the pairs field.
