STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Caroline Doyle has been named the Pac-12 Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, as announced by the Conference office on Tuesday.
The award, which is presented in each of the 23 sports the Pac-12 sponsors, was established to honor student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline. Washington's Gal Hakak was the recipient for men's tennis.
Stanford has produced the last two Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipients, with Doyle following Krista Hardebeck in 2016. Lindsay Burdette earned the Cardinal's only other honor in 2010.
Doyle is 17-10 overall and ranked No. 41 nationally this season in singles, playing eight of her matches at the No. 1 position. In doubles, Doyle has teamed up with Melissa Lord to post a 13-5 overall record as Stanford's No. 2 duo.
An international relations major carrying a 3.87 cumulative GPA, Doyle played a key role in leading Stanford to the 2016 NCAA championship. At No. 15, the Cardinal became the lowest-seeded team to capture an NCAA title, with Doyle providing the clinching point in Stanford's dramatic NCAA quarterfinal victory over Michigan. Doyle owns a 102-37 overall singles record and is 59-22 in duals during her career. Doyle is also an accomplished doubles player, earning All-America honors twice while chalking up an 88-36 career record.
Doyle is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic selection, named to the first team as a junior and second team as a freshman. A two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete recipient, Doyle will remain in the Bay Area following graduation, pursuing a career in investment management.
In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must be a senior (in athletics eligibility) on track to receive a degree, have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher, participate in at least 50 percent of the scheduled contests in the sport and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution. Each Pac-12 institution may nominate one individual per sport, and the winners are selected by a committee of Pac-12 staff members at the conclusion of each sport's regular season.
