Card Dominates Weekly Honors

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford captured three of four Pac-12 Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors, following winning performances at the home Cardinal Classic last weekend.

Elise Cranny was honored for women's track, Grant Fisher for men's track, and Lena Giger for women's field.

Cranny, a junior from Niwot, Colorado, won the 1,500 meters in 4:11.46, the fastest collegiate time this year by more than a second, the No. 1 outdoor time in the country, and the No. 2 outdoor time in the world. In 2016, Cranny won the Pac-12 title and was the NCAA runner-up in this event.

Fisher, a sophomore from Grand Blanc, Mich., won the invitational section of the 5,000 on Friday in 13:37.77, the No. 3 outdoor time in NCAA Division I this year. This was the first 5,000 for Fisher since last July's U.S. Olympic Trials and the second fastest of his life. He is a returning first-team outdoor All-America in that event.

Giger, a junior from Highland, Illinois, won the shot put at 16.77 meters (55'-0 1/4"). This was her sixth meet this year, including indoors, that she has exceeded 16 meters after doing so only twice before. Giger is No. 3 all-time at Stanford and No. 14 in NCAA Division I this year. She also was third in the hammer this weekend with a mark of 55.95 meters (183'-6 3/4").
