STANFORD, Calif. – Junior David Wilczynski has been named the Pac-12 Player of the Week after his flawless week in singles and doubles, the conference announced Monday afternoon. The honor is the second of the season for the Cardinal.
Wilczynski opened his perfect 3-0 week in singles against Julian Childers of No. 25 Illinois, whom the Cardinal defeated 6-1, 6-2.
Up next was Joel Popov of San Diego State that Wilczynski rolled past 6-1, 6-1. The junior wrapped up the week against Parker McGuiness of Utah that the Cardinal dispatched 6-2, 6-2 with all three opponents unable to claim more than two games in a set.
The week gave Wilczynski 53 career wins as well as 32 dual wins – only eight away from entering the Stanford men's tennis history book. Included on that list are tennis legends such as Roscoe Tanner, Tim Mayotte, Bob Bryan, John Morrissey, Patrick McEnroe and the Taube Family Director of Men's Tennis Paul Goldstein.
Wilczynski was also perfect in doubles with teammate Brandon Sutter as the duo went 4-0 to help lead Stanford to four wins on the week.
The honor is the second in Wilczynski's career as well as the 16th all-time for Stanford.
Stanford continues Pac-12 play this weekend as it sets to host USC and UCLA. Match time against USC on Friday is set for 3 p.m. PT and 1 p.m. PT Sunday against UCLA at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium.
