STANFORD, Calif. – Andrea Lee has been named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association 2016-17 PING Division I Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year watch lists, it was announced Tuesday.
A three-time winner this season and an All-Pac-12 First Team selection, Lee is ranked second nationally and leads No. 1 Stanford in scoring with an average of 71.42. She is on pace to break the Cardinal freshman (72.03) and season (71.56) scoring marks set by 2016 graduate Mariah Stackhouse, who is now competing professionally.
A product of Hermosa Beach, California, Lee has posted an outstanding rookie campaign. In her first event, she won the Windy City Intercollegiate Classic in Chicago, firing rounds of 68-71-67 to finish at 10-under 210. She rolled in a 10-foot birdie putt on the final hole.
Lee added her second title in November at the East Lake Cup in Atlanta, Georgia. She and teammate Casey Danielson fired 4-under 68s, and Lee prevailed with a birdie on the sixth hole of a sudden death playoff.
Lee's third victory came at the Peg Barnard Invitational in February, where she registered rounds of 67-67 (-10) to win by six strokes at Stanford Golf Course.
In 10 starts, Lee has contributed eight top 10s and shot par or better 14 times. She has recorded 10 rounds in the 60s, carding 67 four times.
The other Player of the Year finalists are: Leona Maguire (junior) of Duke, Jennifer Kupcho (sophomore) of Wake Forest, Cheyenne Knight (sophomore) of Alabama, and Martina Edberg (senior) of Cal State Fullerton.
In addition to Lee, the Freshman of the Year watch list includes: Kristen Gillman of Alabama, and Pimnipa Panthong of Kent State.
Both awards will be announced after the stroke play portion of the upcoming NCAA Championships, which start Friday at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
