STANFORD, Calif. – Reid Travis has received approval of his medical hardship petition and has been granted an extra year of NCAA eligibility. Travis enters the 2017-18 season with two years of eligibility remaining.
Travis had his petition approved as a result of missing the final 22 games of the 2015-16 season with a leg injury.
"I am thrilled for Reid and our program," Stanford head coach Jerod Haase said. "Reid has battled through some unfortunate obstacles during his basketball career. We witnessed the impact of a healthy Reid Travis this past season and are excited for him to lead our program for two more years."
Travis, a First Team All-Pac-12 selection last season, enters his junior season of eligibility in 2017-18 as the conference's returning scoring and rebounding leader. He averaged 17.4 points and 8.9 rebounds this past season.
Travis, a National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District selection in 2016-17, completed the season as the only player in the Pac-12 and one of only five individuals in the top six conferences (Pac-12, Big 12, Big Ten, ACC, SEC and BIG EAST) to rank in the top five of his conference in scoring and rebounding. He is one of just two players (UCLA's TJ Leaf was the other) to rank in the top six in the league in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.
The Cardinal forward ranked in the top eight in the Pac-12 in seven different categories, including scoring (17.4 ppg, fourth), rebounding (8.9, fifth), offensive rebounding (3.4, first), field goal percentage (.579, sixth), double-doubles (9, sixth), free throws attempted (181, second) and free throws made (118, third).
Travis posted nine of his 10 career double-doubles last season. In his final nine games, the forward averaged 19.8 ppg and 9.6 rpg, including three double-doubles. His offensive rebounding average ranked 20th nationally, while his field percentage ranked 32nd nationally.
Stanford was 14-17 overall in its first season under the direction of Haase. The Cardinal returns four starters and five of its top six scorers, as well as its top four rebounders from last season on the 2017-18 squad.
