STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford earned a program-record five Pac-12 All-Academic first team selections, as announced by the conference Monday.
The Cardinal led the conference with nine selections overall, including a conference-best seven members on the first and second teams. It is the third consecutive year Stanford has led the Pac-12 in first- and second-team selections.
Stanford was represented on the first team by Lauren Bertoy (biomechanical engineering, 3.87 GPA), Kaitlyn Lagattuta (computer science, 3.77), Carolyn Lee (mechanical engineering, 3.99), Bessie Noll (mechanical engineering, 3.73) and Kylie Sorenson (psychology, 3.68).
The Cardinal's five first-team selections surpass the program's previous record of three honorees in 2016, 2003 and 2002.
Victoria Molina (psychology, 3.68) and Lauren Wegner (biology, 3.68) represented the Cardinal on the second team, while Whitney Burks and Arden Pettit earned honorable mention recognition.
It is the third Pac-12 All-Academic honor for Bertoy, Noll and Sorenson, while Burks, Molina, Pettit and Wegner claimed the second honors of their careers. It is the first honor for Lee and Lagattuta.
Stanford continues to rack up academic accolades after being the only Pac-12 softball program to earn an NCAA Academic Progress Rate Public Recognition Award and register a perfect 1,000 multi-year APR score earlier this season.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average, completed at least one full academic year and be either a starter or significant contributor, playing in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
