Fawcett Ready for NCAA's

Bracket Opens in a new window

ATHENS, Ga. - Junior Tom Fawcett opens the NCAA singles championship Wednesday, where he's set to face No. 33 Wayne Montgomery of Georgia in the round of 64 at 11 a.m. PT.

Fawcett enters the postseason ranked No. 11 nationally with a record of 18-9 overall and 12-6 in dual play. The Cardinal also holds a 9-6 record against nationally ranked opponents with two clinching points this season.

The junior reached a milestone this season with his 40th career dual win to place his name on the list of leaders in Stanford history, which is dotted with legends. He currently has 42 career dual wins.

Fawcett will compete for the third time in the tournament in as many years, advancing the furthest in 2015 to the round of 32 as a freshman.

Stanford has claimed 14 NCAA singles champions dating back to Philip Neer in 1921. The most recent champion for the Cardinal was Bradley Klahn in 2010.
