STANFORD, Calif. – Freshman Andrea Lee has been selected one of four nominees for the Honda Sport Award for Golf, it was announced was Thursday.
The Honda Award is presented annually by The Collegiate Women Sports Awards to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports. The winner becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the 2017 Honda Cup.
The other nominees from women's golf are Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest, Leona Maguire of Duke and Monica Vaughn of Arizona State.
Earlier this week, Lee was named the program's first WGCA Freshman of the Year, and a Ping/WGCA First Team All-American. She sparked the Cardinal to a school-record five victories and earned medalist honors three times. An All-Pac-12 first team pick, she posted seven top three showings, finished in the top 10 in nine of 11 starts, and shot par or better in 16 of 29 rounds.
Lee posted a team-best 71.62 scoring average, the lowest ever by a Stanford freshman.
The Hermosa Beach, California product placed sixth in the stroke play portion of the NCAA Championships this week at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Illinois, and helped the Cardinal reach the match play semifinals for the third consecutive year.
