STANFORD, Calif. - Junior Tom Fawcett has been selected to represent Stanford in the singles competition of the NCAA Championships, slated to happen after team competition concludes.
Fawcett enters the postseason ranked No. 11 nationally with a record of 16-8 overall and 10-5 in dual play. The Cardinal also holds an 8-3 record against Pac-12 opponents and is 9-7 against nationally ranked opponents with two clinching points this season.
The junior reached a milestone this season with his 40th career dual win to place his name on the list of leaders in Stanford history, which is dotted with legends.
Only the selections were announced on Wednesday afternoon, while the individual brackets will be released in three weeks at the conclusion of the team competition.
The individual portion of the NCAA Men's and Women's Tennis Championship is scheduled for May 24-29 in Athens, Georgia, with singles play kicking off on May 24 and the doubles competition getting underway on May 29.
No. 17 Stanford will be making its 38th NCAA Tournament appearance when it hosts first and second round competition next weekend.
The Cardinal (16-8, 4-3 Pac-12), seeded 16th overall in the postseason draw, hosts Idaho (16-7, 9-2 Big Sky) at 2 p.m. PT on Friday, May 12, in the first round. Michigan (22-6, 10-2 Big Ten) will face Valparaiso (23-3, 7-0 Horizon League) earlier that day at 11 a.m. The winners meet in the second round on Saturday, May 13, at 4 p.m.
Taube Family Tennis Stadium will play host to NCAA first and second round competition on May 12-14, also serving as a host site on the women's side. All seats are general admission.
