CHARLESTON, S.C. – Stanford's sailing team capped its lengthy season with a 16th-place finish at the Gill Coed Championships and a sixth-place finish in the Fowle Trophy on Friday at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center.

The Cardinal finished the season sixth in the race for the Fowle Trophy, a culmination of all six ICSA National Championships (match racing, men's singlehanded, women's singlehanded, women's, team racing and coed).

"First, congratulations to Charleston on an incredible run to winning the Fowle Trophy as well as putting on a great national championship," said head coach John Vandemoer. "Our team has lots to be proud of. We came together and fought hard to prove we are one of the top programs in the country."

Following the coed championship, Stanford heads home after its 11-day stay in Charleston for the Intercollegiate Sailing Association National Championships, which also included the Sperry Women's Championship and the LaserPerformance Team Race Championships.\

Junior skipper Will La Dow and sophomore crew Kathryn Booker led the Cardinal in the coed finals, finishing 10th with 161 points across 17 races. In the B-division, senior skipper Reinier Eenkema van Dijk, freshman skipper Jacob Rosenberg, junior crew Kennedy Placek and freshman crew Taylor Kirkpatrick finished 16th.

Stanford earned a place in the finals by finishing sixth in the eastern semifinal with 178 points. La Dow and Booker won the A-division with a mere 73 points in 12 races, while Eenkema van Dijk, Rosenberg, Kirkpatrick and Placek combined to finish 11th in the B-division semifinal with 105 points.

Last week, the Cardinal kicked off the ICSA Championships with a fifth-place finish in the Sperry Women's Championship on May 23-26, good for Stanford's highest finish in the event since 2013.

The team of sophomore skipper Martina Sly, junior skipper Julia Lambert, freshman crew Madeline Bubb and junior crew Elena VandenBerg led the way, earning fourth place in the B-fleet with 122 points.

Senior captain Maeve White skippered Stanford in the A-division, finishing seventh with 145 points. Sophomore Olivia Gugliemini, junior Haley Fox and sophomore Meg Gerli crewed the Cardinal A-squad.

Following the women's competition, the Cardinal earned its 10th straight top-10 finish at the LaserPerformance Team Race Championship with seventh place. Stanford finished the regatta with an 11-11 overall record, which included a 9-6 clip in the preliminary round, earning the Cardinal a place in the semifinals.

Stanford finished the semifinals with a 2-5 mark, settling for seventh place while host Charleston took the title with a 21-4 overall record.

All four classes were represented in team racing, led by senior skipper Eenkema van Dijk and senior crew J.P. Cannistraro. Stanford's other skippers included sophomore William Marshall, junior La Dow and Rosenberg. Joining Cannistraro as crews were Kirkpatrick, VandenBerg, sophomore Cassie Obel, Booker and Placek.

"I'm so proud of how this team came together, and thankful for our captains Maeve White and Luke Muller for their excellent leadership," said Vandemoer. "The conditions all week were exceptionally tough and a lot of good teams didn't make the finals. I'm proud of our team for staying together through the conditions and battling for top-five finishes."
