STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford will take on a challenging 19-game schedule in 2017, including 10 teams that appeared in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Cardinal opponents registered a winning percentage of .587 with a combined record of 213-143-46 in 2016. Seven teams finished the season ranked in the top 25 nationally.
Stanford will play eight nonconference games to open the season, including five matchups against teams that appeared in the NCAA Tournament and four that advanced to at least the second round. The Cardinal's first four games of the season will be against NCAA Tournament teams. Nonconference opponents produced a .598 winning-percentage with a combined record of 92-58-23.
Stanford will have 11 games televised on the Pac-12 Networks, including 10 of its 11 conference matches.
The Cardinal opens its season on the road at Marquette (Aug. 18) and Wisconsin (Aug. 20). Stanford makes its home debut Sept. 1 against Georgetown, which is coming off its first College Cup appearance in program history in 2016. The match against the Hoyas will be Stanford's 2017 Pac-12 Networks debut.
The Cardinal's first homestand will be its longest of the season with four consecutive matches at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium from Sept. 1-10. Stanford boasts a 36-2-4 (.905) record at home over the past three seasons.
Stanford begins the pursuit of its third straight Pac-12 title Sept. 21 at Washington State. The Cardinal concludes Pac-12 play at home against California on Nov. 3.
Stanford won its second consecutive Pac-12 title, earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and advanced past the first round of the tournament for the 11th straight season during a successful 2016 campaign.
Three Stanford players earned NSCAA All-America honors, five earned NSCAA All-Pacific Region honors, eight earned All-Pac-12 recognition and 10 claimed Pac-12 All-Academic accolades.
Andi Sullivan was named a Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy finalist – the most prestigious individual award in the country. Maddie Bauer was named a semifinalist for the same award.
The coaching staff, led by head coach Paul Ratcliffe, earned NSCAA Pacific Region Staff of the Year recognition. Ratcliffe claimed the seventh Pac-12 Coach of the Year award of his career.
Stanford made its 26th NCAA Tournament appearance and 19th consecutive. The Cardinal earned one of four No. 1 seeds and extended its postseason home unbeaten streak to 30 matches before falling to Santa Clara, 1-0, in double-overtime in the second round.
Stanford earned its 11th Pac-12 title and sixth championship in the past eight seasons. The Cardinal led the Pac-12 in goals scored with 48 overall and 27 in conference play.
