STANFORD, Calif. – Fourteen current and future Stanford swimmers will compete in the Phillips 66 National Championships this week with a chance to qualify for the 2017 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on July 14-30.

The meet will be held from June 27 to July 1 at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, the same location as the 2017 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

Twelve members of Stanford's 2017 Pac-12 Championship winning squad made the trip, including Matt Anderson, Cole Cogswell, Patrick Conaton, Abrahm DeVine, Liam Egan, Andrew Liang, William Macmillan, Curtis Ogren, Hank Poppe, Grant Shoults, True Sweetser and Brad Zdroik. Incoming freshman Alex Liang (Palo Alto, Calif.) and Matthew Hirschberger (Northern Bethesda, Md.) are also in the field.

The top two finishers in each event will advance to the World Championships with several exceptions. For relays, the top six finishes in the 100-meter freestyle and 200-meter freestyle qualify. For the 50-meter butterfly, 50-meter breaststroke, 50-meter backstroke and 800-meter freestyle, only the fastest swimmer qualifies for Worlds.

In April, senior captain Sam Perry punched his ticket to Budapest by qualifying in the 50-meter freestyle and 400-meter freestyle relay for his native New Zealand. Perry equaled the qualifying standard of 22.47 in the 50 free before becoming one of four Kiwi swimmers to break 50.00 (49.48) and earn a spot on the 400 free relay team.

Live streaming and full results will be available at USASwimming.org.
