Three Named All-America

STANFORD, Calif. – Three Stanford sailors earned All-America honors, as announced by the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association. The Cardinal had one representative in each of the three categories of All-Americans – coed, crew and women's.

Last week, the Cardinal finished sixth in the Fowle Trophy, a competition based on teams' finishes at the six national championships throughout the year (men's singlehanded, women's singlehanded, match racing, coed, team racing and women's). At the Spring ICSA National Championships, Stanford placed fifth in women's, seventh in team racing and 16th in coed.

Sophomore crew Kathryn Booker earned her second All-America selection in as many years on The Farm. Booker, a native of St. Petersburg, Florida, represented Stanford in the team racing and coed championships, and was Stanford's primary A-division crew throughout the lengthy season.

Sailing with Booker for most of the season, junior skipper Will La Dow was named All-America coed skipper after earning an honorable mention last season. La Dow, who hails from San Diego, served as Stanford's first-choice A-division skipper for most of the season, representing the Cardinal in both the team racing and coed championships.

Senior captain Maeve White earned her first All-America selection with an honorable mention following the women's championship. White, a native of Annapolis, Maryland, led Stanford to a fifth-place finish at the Sperry Women's Championship last week after winning the A-division Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference Women's Championship, helping the Cardinal win the overall crown.

The ICSA All-America team is selected by a committee of coaches who represent the seven conferences of the ICSA. The Committee evaluates competitors based on their competitive record in inter-conference competition as well as conference and national championships to select All-American skippers. For All-America crew selections, the committee also considers demonstrated leadership, outstanding body mechanics and boat handling skills along with results.
