Hock Named Finalist

STANFORD, Calif. - Junior reliever Colton Hock was named one of five finalists for the Stopper of the Year award, as announced by the National Collegiate baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Wednesday.

Hock joins Lincoln Henzman of Louisville, Michael Byrne of Florida, Josh Hiatt of North Carolina and Kenyon Yovan of Oregon.

The NCBWA's All-America Committee will select the winner, with this year's recipient to be announced Saturday morning, June 17, at a news conference at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha at 8 a.m. PT.

Hock, who set the school record with 16 saves this season, was an All-Pac-12 selection and second team All-America pick by Collegiate Baseball News. He led the nation in saves during the regular season, and broke the program record of 13, originally set in 1987 by Steve Chitren and matched in 2000 by Jeff Bruksch.

A native of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, Hock is the only finalist that was also on the Stopper of the Year preseason watch list. He led the Cardinal with a 2.08 ERA and .211 opposing batting average. He was second on the team with 27 appearances, and third on the team in wins with a 6-1 mark. Excluding one outing this year, he had a 0.95 ERA in 26 appearances.

Hock helped lead Stanford (42-16) to its best record in 13 years, and its first national seed since 2004. The Cardinal finished second in the Pac-12 with a 21-9 record -- Stanford's best conference finish since 2008 and the most conference wins since 1998.
