NABC Team Academic Excellence

STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford was recognized by the National Association of Basketball Coaches with the Team Academic Excellence Award, the NABC Committee on Academics announced.

The Cardinal men's basketball program has received the award in four of the five years it has been presented. The award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2016-17 season. Stanford completed the academic year with a 3.05 cumulative grade point average as a team.

In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, institutions in the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA must count the grade point averages of all men's basketball student-athletes in the 2016-17 season.

Stanford is one of just 12 men's basketball programs among the power five conferences and one of two Pac-12 programs (Oregon State) to receive the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award.

The Cardinal landed three members on the Pac-12 All-Academic team. Dorian Pickens was a first-team pick, while Marcus Allen and Cameron Walker were honorable mention selections.

Stanford completed the season 14-17 overall in its first year under the direction of head coach Jerod Haase. The Cardinal returns four starters and five of its top six scorers, as well as its top four rebounders from last season on the 2017-18 squad.
