STANFORD, Calif. – Dorian Pickens was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches 2016-17 Honors Court, the NABC Committee on Academics announced.
The NABC Honors Court recognized men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics last season. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a junior or a senior, own a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or higher and the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year, and have played at least one season at his current institution.
Pickens, a Phoenix, Arizona native, boasts a 3.406 cumulative grade-point average, majoring in communication. A two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree, he was a first-team all-academic selection for the 2016-17 season.
Pickens was the lone Cardinal to start all 31 games last season. He finished the year second on the team in scoring (12.6 ppg) and led Stanford in three-point field goals (67) and three-point field goal percentage (39.6). The guard ranked 24th in the conference in scoring. He also ranked 11th in the league in three-point field goals made, 13th in three-point field goal percentage (.396) and 15th in free throw percentage (.738)
The Cardinal was one of seven Pac-12 student-athletes and one of just two regular starters in the conference (Washington State's Josh Hawkinson was the other) to earn a spot on the NABC Honors Court.
The NABC Honors Court was established in 2007 and is now in its 11th year.
Earlier this month, Stanford was recognized by the NABC with the Team Academic Excellence Award, which recognized outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2016-17 season. The Cardinal completed the academic year with a 3.05 cumulative grade point average as a team. The Stanford program has received the award in four of the five years it has been presented.
