Morris Delivers Dagger

STANFORD, Calif. – Former Stanford All-American and current Seattle Sounders forward Jordan Morris scored the game winner in the 88th minute Wednesday night to propel the U.S. men's national team to its sixth CONCACAF Gold Cup title with a 2-1 victory over Jamaica.

The strike was the latest moment in what has been a banner 18 months for Morris, who has now won championships at the collegiate, professional and international levels.

Morris carved out the winning moment when Gyasi Zardes drove down the right touchline before crossing into the heart of the Jamaica box where the ball was only partially cleared. Clint Dempsey was able to knock the ball down into the path of an onrushing Morris who blasted a shot through a crowd of Jamaica players and into the top right corner.

The 22-year old earned his third start of the Gold Cup against Jamaica and was the only U.S. player to appear in all six matches of the tournament. Morris led the United States with three goals throughout the Gold Cup and had his first brace for the USMNT in a 3-2 win over Martinique on July 12.

In 22 career caps for the United States, Morris has started four times and scored five goals.
