STANFORD, Calif. – Highlighted by a visit from defending NCAA champion North Carolina, a matchup with Kansas in Sacramento and the PK80 Invitational, the Stanford men's basketball program unveiled its 2017-18 nonconference schedule.
The Cardinal will host eight games as part of its nonconference slate, including a Nov. 20 date with the Tar Heels at Maples Pavilion.
Stanford will play a total of 13 nonconference games, with as many as five contests against teams that reached at least the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season. Along with the defending NCAA champion Tar Heels, Stanford will play neutral site contests against 2017 NCAA elite eight squads Kansas and Florida.
The Cardinal is in its second year of a four-game series with Kansas. The two teams will meet at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Dec. 21 in Stanford's nonconference finale.
The previously-announced PK80 Invitational in Portland, Oregon, pits Stanford against Florida in the opening round. NCAA participants from last season Gonzaga, Butler and Duke are in Stanford's bracket along with Ohio State, Texas and Portland State.
The Cardinal's season tips off Friday, Nov. 10, as The Farm will play host to a rare men's basketball-football doubleheader. The action begins in Maples Pavilion as Stanford hosts Cal Poly, prior to the football team's matchup with Washington at Stanford Stadium.
Stanford's first five games will be at home with the season opener against the Mustangs followed by visits from Pacific (Nov. 12), Eastern Washington (Nov. 14), Northeastern (Nov. 17) and the Tar Heels (Nov. 20) in the month of November.
The Cardinal will also host Montana (Nov. 29) at the end of November and welcome Denver (Dec. 15) and San Francisco (Dec. 17) to The Farm in December.
Stanford's lone true road game during the nonconference slate will be at Long Beach State on Dec. 3, its first trip to the 49ers' campus since Dec. 2, 2000.
