KINGS POINT, N.Y. - Stanford sailing began its 2017-18 season with a fourth-place finish at the Nevins Trophy on the North Shore of Long Island.

Against a competitive field in the season-opening regatta, the Cardinal finished with a score of 366. Georgetown took the team title with 284 points. A weekend with consistent winds featured 15 races in each of the three divisions.

In the A-Division, the all-junior team of skipper William Marshall and crew Cassie Obel finished in fourth place with 110 points after a head-to-head tiebreaker with the host U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for third.

In the B-Division, senior skipper Julia Lambert and freshman crew Victoria Thompson finished 12th with 148 points, while freshman Christina Sakellaris totaled 108 points to place fifth in the singlehanded C-Division. 

The Cardinal returns to the Bay Area next weekend for the Match Race Conference Championships, Sept. 23-24.
