STANFORD, Calif. – A complete team effort powered by two goals from Corinne Zanolli propelled the No. 13 Cardinal past No. 17 Iowa 3-2 Friday night.

The Hawkeyes (0-3) started off hot in the first half, putting away the first goal of the game in the fourth minute of play as Mallory Lefkowitz moved across the middle before dropping a ball into the bottom right corner of the cage.

The half played out even-keeled for both teams with both goalkeepers posting two saves, though the Cardinal (1-2) would even it up in the 34th minute right before time expired. A penalty corner set up Sarah Johnson and Katie Keyser for the assists as Zanolli burned one past the Hawkeye defense to send it knotted 1-1 into the half.

The second period saw a whole new Stanford team as it composed an aggressive attack and maintained possession and control throughout. The Cardinal doubled its shot output from the first half with seven as Kaylie Mings right out of the gate in the 39th minute flicked a shot high over the Iowa goalie to make it 2-1.

A flurry of shots after a penalty corner would fall the way of the Hawkeyes as a rebound found Lefkowitz again that she knocked into the bottom right corner.

Zanolli took control again with six of Stanford's 10 shots on the night after Marissa Cicione made an incredible steal and pass through the middle of the circle that the freshman lit up for the game-winning goal.

Stanford will return to action on Sunday as it sets to host No. 22 UMass. Game time is set for 12 p.m. PT at Varsity Turf.
