STANFORD, Calif. – Senior midfielder Andi Sullivan has been selected as a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, as announced Friday by the organization.
"Andi has exhibited outstanding leadership during her time at Stanford," said seven-time Pac-12 Coach of the Year Paul Ratcliffe. "She demands excellence of herself and from all of her teammates, both on and off the field. Andi has an amazing work ethic and strong character – she is one of the top student-athletes I have ever coached."
A two-time Pac-12 all-academic honorable mention, Sullivan is set to graduate following the 2017 season with a degree in symbolic systems. She is an active participant in soccer clinics for Female Footballers and the Bay Area Women's Sports Initiative, and has worked with the Cupertino and Hillsborough American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) programs.
On the field, Sullivan has starred for the Cardinal since her freshman season in 2014. The 2016 Pac-12 Player of the Year, Sullivan is a three-time All-Pac-12 first teamer, a two-time United Soccer Coaches first-team All-American and a three-time United Soccer Coaches All-Pacific Region selection.
Sullivan was named to the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy watch list after being a finalist in 2016 and a semifinalist in 2015. Last season, Sullivan earned two call-ups to the United States Women's National Team, earning four senior caps.
A complete midfielder, Sullivan has made 74 appearances for the Cardinal, leading the team in goals (11) last season from a deep position. This season, Sullivan's six assists lead the team and ranked sixth in the nation entering the week.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must classify as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Each of the two candidate classes will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. ?
The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the 2017 NCAA Men's and Women's College Cup championships in December.
