Card Topples Pomona-Pitzer

LOS ANGELES – Eleven different members of the Cardinal scored in No. 3 Stanford men's water polo's 20-7 victory over Pomona-Pitzer Friday in the Mountain Pacific Invitational opener at USC's Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
 
Stanford (5-1) advanced in the three-day tournament, where it will face Long Beach State, an 11-8 winner over Princeton, on Saturday at 12:45 p.m. PT.
 
Freshman Ben Hallock and sophomore Bennett Williams led the way for the Cardinal, offensively, with three goals apiece. Senior Connor Stapleton, juniors Blake Parrish and Mitchell Mendoza, and freshmen Tyler Abramson and Sawyer Rhodes each netted a pair of scores. Seniors Jackson Kimbell, Justin Roberto and Sam Pfeil, and junior Harrison Enright rounded out the scoring for the Cardinal with a goal apiece.
 
Hallock broke a 1-1 tie with his first score of the contest 1:15 into the match, and Stanford never looked back. The Cardinal scored eight straight goals to surge out to a 9-1 advantage. Stanford held Pomona-Pitzer without a score for a span of 9:32 leading to an 11-2 halftime advantage.
 
The Cardinal added four goals in the third quarter and five more in the fourth, en route to the 20-7 victory.
 
Senior goalie Drew Holland started and registered two saves in the cage, before handing it over to sophomore Andrew Chun. Chun played the final three quarters in the cage, posting seven saves.
 
Stanford has scored at least 20 goals in four of its first six games this season, recording a season-high 24 goals against MIT.
