STANFORD, Calif. - In a tie-breaking sail off, Stanford won the Pacific Coast Collegiate Sailing Conference (PCCSC) Match Racing Championships in Redwood City over the weekend. The Cardinal claimed the Richard B. Sweet Memorial Trophy for the first time since 2014 and earned a spot at the National Championships in Charleston, S.C.

Three teams finished with one loss after the first day of competition, and following the second round robin, Stanford was tied with UCSB with eight wins apiece. Both schools swept Cal, USC and Hawaii, and went 1-1 against California Maritime Academy. Stanford and UCSB split the their two head-to-head races to force a sail off where the Cardinal won the rubber match.

Freshman skipper Jack Parkin celebrated his birthday with the first-place finish, alongside skippers Romain Screve and Elena Vandenberg.

The College of Charleston will host the ICSA Match Race National Championships, Nov. 10-12. 

Next weekend, the Cardinal will head to City Island, N.Y. for the Jesuit Open and New London, Conn., for the Danmark Trophy. Live results will be available via scores.collegesailing.org.
