STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Simone Manuel led all female nominees with six nominations for the 2017 Golden Goggle Awards. Sophomore Katie Ledecky was nominated in three categories, while Paul A. Violich Director of Women's Swimming Greg Meehan is up for Coach of the Year. The 14th edition of the annual awards show will take palce on Sunday, Nov. 19 at the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. LIVE.
The nation's top swimmers and coaches are nominated in eight categories for the celebration and fundraising gala honoring the sport's top performances of the year.
Manuel is nominated for Female Athlete of the Year, Female Race of the Year for the 100m free at the FINA World Championships, as well as for anchoring four entries in the Relay Performance of the Year category. She is one of two athletes with six nominations, alongside Caeleb Dressel. Last year, Manuel won the Golden Goggles Female Race of the Year award for her history-making performance in the 100-meter freestyle at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Ledecky is also up for Female Athlete of the Year and Female Race of the Year. She and Manuel are both part of the 2017 FINA World Championships women's 400-meter freestyle relay that was nominated for Relay Performance of the Year. Ledecky is an 11-time Golden Goggles award winner. Last year, she became the first athlete – male or female – to win Golden Goggles' Athlete of the Year honors in four consecutive years.
