STANFORD, Calif. – Led by six goals from freshman Ben Hallock and four from junior Blake Parrish, No. 4 Stanford men's water polo cruised to a 16-5 victory over No. 18 San Jose State in its home opener at Avery Aquatic Center Saturday.
Hallock, who has played previously at Avery Aquatic Center with the U.S. National Team, made his Avery debut with Stanford on Saturday, scoring early and often to lead the Cardinal offensive charge. The redshirt freshman followed a Reid Chase goal with a pair of penalty-shot scores to give Stanford the 3-0 lead midway through the first quarter.
The Cardinal (7-3) scored the first eight goals of the match, with Hallock netting four of those scores.
San Jose State (5-6) got on the board in the final three minutes of the half, with the Cardinal taking an 8-1 lead into the break.
Hallock added his fifth and sixth score of the match in the first three minutes of the second half as the Cardinal stretched its lead to 10-2.
Parrish recorded his fourth hat trick of the year, with four goals in the match. He capped his scoring with a goal in the final minute of the third quarter, taking a feed from Mitchell Mendoza and firing it into the back of the cage.
Senior Jackson Kimbell (2), sophomore Dylan Woodhead and senior Cody Smith also added goals for the Cardinal victory.
Meanwhile, senior Drew Holland made several nice stops in goal for Stanford, finishing with 10 saves in the first three quarters of the match. Sophomore Andrew Chun took over in the final quarter, recording four saves.
Stanford returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 7) against No. 4 Pacific in Stockton, Calif.
