• Two-time defending champion Bronte Law of UCLA is now a professional, so a new winner is assured. Top individuals include No. 3 Patty Tavatanakit of UCLA, No. 5 Andrea Lee of Stanford, No. 8 Maddie McCrary of Oklahoma State, No. 15 Jillian Hallis of Georgia, No. 20 Kenzie Neisen of Oklahoma State, No. 22 Mariel Galdiano of UCLA, No. 26 Kathleen Scavo of Oregon, No. 30 Stephanie Astrup of Oklahoma State and No. 35 Bethany Wu of UCLA. Lee tied for second in 2016.

Last Year

• Sparked by Bronte Law, UCLA captured the team title for the third time in the rain-shortened 36-hole event at Stanford Golf Course. Law fired rounds of 70-65 to finish at 7-under 135 and earned medalist honors for the third consecutive year. The Bruins finished at 4-over 572, 11 strokes ahead of host Stanford (583). Heavy rain on the morning of the final round resulted in standing water on the greens, forcing officials to suspend and cancel play. Individually, freshman Andrea Lee (70-68) of Stanford and Georgia Lacey of San Diego State shared second at 2-under 140.

The Course

• Located on the famed Monterey Peninsula in the Del Monte Forest, Poppy Hills Golf Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. and opened in 1986. It is home of the Northern California Golf Association and is the first course in the country to be owned and operated by an amateur golf association.

The challenging layout is situated high above Pebble Beach Golf Links and features rolling terrain as the holes meander through majestic Monterey pines and cypress trees. Large, undulating greens put a premium on club selection and distance control, and there are many risk-and-reward holes. Poppy Hills offers scenic views of the Pacific Ocean. From 1991-2009, the course hosted the PGA Tour's AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, and was also site of the 1991 NCAA Men's Championships. A 13-month, $10 million course renovation was completed in 2014.

• Stanford has produced many influential golfers throughout the years. Former Cardinal standouts include Casey Danielson, Melinda Daniels-Price, Allison Finney, Martha Freitag, Kim Hall, Sara Hallock, 1971 NCAA champion Shelley Hamlin, Lauren Kim, 2003 U.S. Women's Open champion Hilary Lunke, Stephanie Louden, Mhairi McKay, Joanne Pacillo, Jodi Renner, Anne Sander, Mariah Stackhouse, Sally Watson and LPGA Hall of Famer Mickey Wright. Wright won 13 major championships, including the 1958, 1959, 1961 and 1964 U.S. Women's Open, and was named to the Pac-12 All-Century Team in 2016.

• Notables on the men's side are former USGA Presidents Sandy Tatum and Grant Spaeth, and PGA Tour players Tom Watson, Tiger Woods, Notah Begay III, Patrick Rodgers, Andrew Yun and Maverick McNealy.
