SAN FRANCISCO – Stanford has been selected fifth in the Pac-12 Conference preseason poll voted on by the media, the league announced on Thursday.
Stanford totaled 182 points to place fifth in a vote of the media members that regularly cover the conference. Arizona (273 points) was selected to finish first, with USC (251 points) second, UCLA (223 points) third and Oregon (203 points) fourth.
The Cardinal is one of the most veteran teams in the nation with 493 total games played among its returning roster. Highlighting the four starters and 10 lettermen back for the 2017-18 season is the Pac-12's leading returning scorer (17.4 ppg) and rebounder (8.9 rpg) in First Team All-Pac-12 selection Reid Travis.
Stanford also returns senior starters Dorian Pickens (12.6 ppg, 3.5 rpg) and Michael Humphrey (9.4 ppg, 6.2 rpg), as well as junior Robert Cartwright (6.7 ppg, 3.5 apg).

Stanford opens the season against Cal Poly at home on Friday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. PT. It is a doubleheader with the Stanford football team, who will host Washington at Stanford Stadium at 7:30 p.m. PT.
