STANFORD, Calif. – Eight different members of the Cardinal scored as No. 4 Stanford cruised to a 20-5 victory over Wagner in the nightcap of a Friday evening men's water polo doubleheader sweep at Avery Aquatic Center.
Senior Reid Chase and sophomore Bennett Williams paced the Cardinal with four goals apiece as Stanford posted its fifth consecutive victory. Senior Jackson Kimbell also posted a hat trick, while fellow senior Cody Smith, sophomores Dylan Woodhead and Nelson Perla-Ward, and freshman Ben Hallock each recorded two goals to round out Stanford's double-digit scorers in the match.
Smith and Connor Stapleton opened the scoring with a goal apiece to give the Cardinal a 2-0 lead 1:32 into the contest. The opening quarter closed with nine total goals in the frame, with Stanford posting seven scores.
The Cardinal (11-3) blanked the Seahawks (9-12) in the second quarter, while stretching its lead to 11-2 at the half with four goals in the period.
Stanford recorded 15 unanswered goals, holding Wagner scoreless for a span of 21:17 from the middle of the first quarter to the middle of the fourth quarter. The Cardinal built a 19-2 lead during the span.
The 20 goals against Wagner marked the fifth time this season the Cardinal has reached the 20-goal mark in 14 matches.
Senior goalie Drew Holland posted a pair of saves in the first quarter, before handing it over to Andrew Chun. The sophomore goalie registered 12 stops over the final three quarters. Wagner goalie Cameron Woldt finished with five saves.
Stanford closes its four-game homestand on Saturday as the Cardinal hosts No. 7 Pepperdine at 1 p.m. PT at Avery Aquatic Center.
