SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Eleven different members of the Cardinal scored as No. 4 Stanford cruised to its seventh consecutive victory, downing St. Francis Brooklyn, 20-4, Sunday as part of the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament at Santa Clara.
Seniors Cody Smith and Jackson Kimbell, junior Mitchell Mendoza and freshman Ben Hallock each recorded a hat trick in the win. Smith paced the Cardinal with a game-high four scorers. Seniors Reid Chase, Sam Pfeil and Connor Stapleton, junior Marco Stanchi, sophomore Bennett Williams and freshmen Tyler Abramson and Sawyer Rhodes added a goal apiece in the victory.
First-quarter goals from Abramson, Kimbell, Hallock, Smith and Pfeil gave Stanford (13-3) an early 5-1 lead. The Cardinal stretched it to 8-2 by halftime and used a seven-goal scoring barrage in the third quarter to build a 15-3 advantage. Mendoza scored all three of his goals in the fourth quarter to highlight five more Stanford scores in the final frame.
The 20 goals scored Sunday against the Terriers marked the sixth time in 16 matches this season Stanford has produced at least 20 scores in a match.
Defensively, senior goalie Drew Holland posted six saves, before handing it over to sophomore Andrew Chun in the second half. Chun finished with a pair of saves over the final 16 minutes.
Stanford will travel south next weekend to face Long Beach State on Saturday (Oct. 28) at noon and UC Irvine on Sunday (Oct. 29) at 1 p.m.
