The Course
• Home of legendary golfer Bobby Jones, construction on East Lake Golf Club began in 1906 and 18 holes were completed in 1907. Famed architect Donald Ross renovated the layout in 1913, and it is the oldest course in Atlanta. Located about five miles east of downtown, East Lake has hosted many important championships including the 1950 U.S. Women's Amateur, 1963 Ryder Cup and 2001 U.S. Men's Amateur. It is also the site of the annual TOUR Championship, the final tournament of the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedEx Cup.
No Stranger to East Lake
• The Cardinal is competing for the third consecutive year, winning the consolation title in 2015 and 2016. In 2015, Stanford lost to Duke 4-1, then beat Baylor 4-0-1. Last year, the Cardinal fell to Washington 4-1, then edged UCLA 3-2. A year ago, Stanford won the medal play portion of the event with a team score of 6-under. Freshman Andrea Lee and senior Casey Danielson shot 4-under 68s to tie for medalist honors, with Lee winning the title with a birdie on the sixth extra hole.
Last Time Out
• Stanford is competing for the fifth and final time this fall, and coming off a second place showing at the rain-shortened Nanea Pac-12 Preview at Nanea Golf Club on the Big Island of Hawaii. Sophomore Andrea Lee shot rounds of 69-68 to finish at 9-under 137 on the par-73 layout and won for the second consecutive week and third time this season.
• Senior Shannon Aubert posted her best finish of the fall by recording a pair of 1-under 72s to finish at 2-under 144 and tied for fifth. Sophomore Ziyi Wang secured her second straight top 20 finish, tying for 15th.
• The previous week, the Cardinal placed second at the Stanford Intercollegiate at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach, California. Lee led the way by firing a final-round 5-under 67 and tied for first, her second victory this season and the fifth of her career.
• Sophomore Albane Valenzuela recorded three sub-par rounds for the Cardinal and tied for fourth with freshman Mika Liu.
• Wang contributed her second-best finish for Stanford, tying for 17th, while Aubert tied for 28th.
