Redwood City, Calif./Boston, Mass. - Stanford sailing won the Nickerson Trophy at the Freshman Interconference regatta, and finished third at the Women's Pacific Coast Conference (PCC) Championships over the weekend. The Cardinal also hosted the Coed Cardinal Open and finished third and fourth.  

Off the shores of Boston, Mass., Stanford's freshmen won the Nickerson Trophy with 94 points -- that cleared the rest of the field by 20 points. Jacksonville was second with 114, and Boston University was third among the 18 teams with 119 points.

The freshmen duo of skipper Romain Screve and crew Victoria Thompson were tops in the A Division with 43 points -- Harvard was second with 48 points. Screve and Houck won two races and finished among the top three in five of the 10 races. Meanwhile, skipper Stephanie Houck and crew Sophia Sole won two races in the B Division and finished second with 51 points.   

Back on the West Coast, the Cardinal served as hosts for the PCC Championships. Among the nine-team field, Stanford's 164 points were only behind USC (150) and UC Santa Barbara (133). In the A-division, junior skipper Mimi El-Khazindar and freshman crew Christina Sakellaris placed third with 63 points. Sophomore skipper Madeline Bubb and junior Meg Gerli were third with 101 points in the B division. The Cardinal won one of the 12 races and finished as the runner-up on five occasions. 

Stanford, which ranked seventh in the nation in the latest coed and women's national polls, also hosted the coed invite. Stanford's top boat finished third among 15 teams with 47 points. Russell Clarida and Kennedy Placek took the first 10 races, while William Marshall and Cassie Obel were skipper and crew for the final three races. Claria and Placek won twice and were runner-up twice, while Marshall and Obel were first, third and first in their three races. Nestor Cano and Olivia Gugliemini placed fourth overall with 76 points.

Next weekend, Stanford heads to St. Petersburg, Fla., for the ICSA Singlehanded National Championships. Senior Luke Muller, Sakellaris and Sole qualified for the Cardinal.
