STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford was honored by United Soccer Coaches on Thursday with the College Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 academic year.
A total of 813 collegiate teams (282 men, 531 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher to earn recognition. Stanford was one of 195 schools to have both its men's and women's soccer programs recognized.
The Cardinal posted a cumulative 3.48 GPA during 2016-17 and is one of only two Pac-12 men's soccer programs on the list. Stanford's cumulative GPA tied for 16th among collegiate men's soccer programs across all NCAA divisions last year and fourth among Division I schools.
Last fall, Stanford boasted a first team academic All-American in Andrew Epstein, an NSCAA All-West Region scholar in Drew Skundrich and had 12 players earn Pac-12 all-academic recognition, the fifth consecutive of 10+ under Jeremy Gunn and his staff. Brian Nana-Sinkam was named a Senior CLASS Award Second Team All-American for his accomplishments in the classroom and community.
No. 8 Stanford has just one match this week when it travels to Berkeley to play No. 24 Cal on Sunday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. Troy Clardy and Christopher Sullivan will have the call on Pac-12 Bay Area.
