BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Redshirt freshman Nathan Traxler placed second to lead the Stanford wrestling team at the Roadrunner Open, Sunday, at the Icardo Center.
Stanford finished with six placewinners overall and came in sixth as a team with 78 points. Wisconsin took the team crown, while host CSU Bakersfield was second and Illinois was third.
Traxler reached the finals at 197 pounds with a 7-3 decision over 16th-ranked Hunter Ritter of Wisconsin. It was the second top-20 win for Traxler this season. He is now 8-4 on the year.
True freshman Jack Ramalia, who wrestled unattached at 149 pounds, placed third with a 5-1 record on the day. Redshirt freshman Brandon Dallavia was fourth at 165 pounds with a 3-2 record, including a 3-1 sudden victory over freshman teammate Dominick Mandarino, who wrestled unattached and finished fifth.
Sophomore Gabriel Townsell and redshirt junior Isaiah Locsin placed fifth at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively.
Stanford will take next week off for the Thanksgiving break. The Cardinal will return to the mats at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 1-2.
