PORTLAND – Freshman Daejon Davis scored a career-high 15 points, senior Reid Travis and freshman Oscar da Silva added 14 apiece, but Stanford came up short in a 79-71 defeat to Ohio State Friday night in the PK80 Invitational at the Moda Center.

Stanford moves on to face Portland State in the seventh-place game of the motion bracket of the PK80 Invitational on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. PT at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The game will air live on ESPNU.

Ohio State (5-1) broke a 32-32 halftime tie with a second-half surge to go up by as many as 10 points with six minutes to go.

Travis converted a three-point play and followed with a steal on the other end, where he was fouled and connected on both free throw attempts to cut it to five as the Cardinal tried to seize OSU's momentum late in the contest.

The Buckeyes responded, however, not allowing the Cardinal (3-4) to get any closer.

Travis and senior Michael Humphrey, who finished the game with nine points and nine rebounds, both fouled out with a little more than two minutes remaining in the contest. Travis had 11 of his 14 points in the game in the second half.

A Robert Cartwright three-pointer with under a minute remaining cut it to six, but Ohio State converted its free throws on the other end to seal the eight-point win.

Davis, who posted a career-best 15 points against Ohio State, has averaged 11.0 ppg over his last four contests. The freshman also recorded four rebounds and three assists in the contest.

Friday marked Stanford's first defeat to Ohio State. The Cardinal now owns a 3-1 all-time record against the Buckeyes.
